Control system replacement

Johnson Matthey Case Study

June 2018

Leading speciality chemicals company relies on Cogent to replace an ageing control system in a tight shutdown window, as part of their obsolescence management program.

A legacy Allen Bradley installation of two PLC5s and a DH+ RSView station was replaced with a single Omron PLC processor and new InTouch application. The existing rack IO was re-terminated to Profibus DP SmartSlice remote IO nodes. All field instruments and MCC signals were then recommissioned during a very short production outage, before re-validating the controls sequences during process commissioning. The control software had been fully simulated on site with plant operations staff to minimise the training and familiarisation time during startup.

Johnson Matthey has used our services for over a decade to deliver a range of capital turnkey EC&I projects, as well as plant modifications, PLC upgrades, project management, out of hours support and process troubleshooting.

Our years of continuing to deliver excellent results under tight deadlines and demanding production restrictions, and intimate knowledge of their processes and systems has seen us become a preferred supplier for their EC&I work who are trusted to execute their most challenging tasks.
